Doppelgangers are great monsters that could literally look like anyone you know.
They even have the ability to probe their thoughts and know what they know.
Of course you can't run these like any other monster encounter.
A good doppelganger adventure requires a bit more of a set up and some finesse on the Dungeon Masters part.
