Our 'best spells' series continues with the Wizard.
The main strength of the Wizard is their versatility and they bring some unique and fantastic spells to the table that no one else can.
Their spellbook can be packed with a huge variety of spells such that the Wizard can custom tailor their approach to any given situation.
As with those before it we'll be picking spells for 0 to 3rd level in the first installments and only three spells for each level.
A spell that meets the criteria of "best" are ones that are good examples of the spirit of that class and ones which are most effective in a variety of situations.
Your list will probably vary, and that is fine, and different campaign types may make one spell stand out from others.
Keeping variance and preference in mind here is my list of the best Wizard spells in 5E D&D.
What are your favorites for the Wizard?
0: Ray of Frost, Firebolt, Shocking Grasp (Choose one) Prestidigitation, Message, Mage Hand, Light (Choose one) True Strike
1: Magic Missile or Chromatic Orb; Sleep or Burning Hands; Mage Armor; Shield
2: Invisibility; Scorching Ray or Shatter; Hold Person or Mirror Image
3: Dispel Magic; Fly; Fireball or Lightning Bolt; Slow; Counterspell
